Week 9 Action
Ok, sports fans…here’s my three picks this week.
1. Georgia +4 – Even without D.J. Shockley, I take Georgia. Even though they’ve lost to Florida 3 of the last 4 years, I take Georgia.
2. UCLA -10 – Stanford isn’t good.
3. North Texas +44 – There’s no way LSU puts up 44, let alone beats the 1991 Hillsboro High School Spartans or North Texas.
Other intriguing match-ups:
- Oklahoma at Nebraska. Anytime there is a spread as low as 1.5 pts, you’re basically picking a winner. I’d hope Nebraska could beat Oklahoma.
- Texas at Oklahoma State. Another interesting Big-12 matchup. The spread is Texas -37.5…I’m not sure the Longhorns will cover that. I’m not sure they will feel the need to.
- South Carolina at Tennessee. As previously discussed, Tennessee is horrible. The spread is Tennessee -13.5 There’s no way this terrible Volunteer team beats Spurrier by two touchdowns.
A side note. Are the Ducks serious? Kellen Clemens goes down and they put a Leaf out there? In explaining Ryan Leaf to a SEC friend the other day, it dawned on me that the Indianapolis Colts actually thought a lot about whether to draft Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf. What a difference that would’ve made for Indianapolis and the Chargers. I did a little research, call it a walk down memory lane, to the 1998 NFL draft. The Chargers traded up from the 3rd to the 2nd pick to draft Leaf. The Arizona Cardinals drafted Andre Wadsworth (out of the league). The Raiders selected Charles Woodson (who intercepted Ryan Leaf in the Rose Bowl) 4th. Other notables taken after Ryan Leaf; Fred Taylor, Randy Moss, Takeo Spikes, Grant Wistrom, Kyle Turley, and quarterbacks; Brian Griese, Charlie Batch, and Matt Hasselbeck. Look up bust in the dictionary and just past Pamela Anderson is Ryan Leaf. Bu-dump-pshh (drum kick). Thank you, and good night, tip your waitresses.
